It’s been a while since our last update, but this is a good month to dive back into Ugandan baseball as we have some updates from the minor leagues and from out in Uganda.

Firstly, let’s check in on three Ugandan prospects in the Minor Leagues.

David Matoma - Matoma is currently in A ball, playing for the Bradenton Marauders. He’s struggled with command at times this season, walking 39 batters in 29 innings of work and his WHIP is almost a point higher than last season. However, there is some good news as his SO/9 is up from 7.9 to 9.4, and he’s only given up 3 earned runs in his last 10 innings of work.

Allen Ajoti - Ajoti is playing for the Dodgers’ Dominican Summer League Bautista team. This is his first season after making the switch from catching to pitching full time. He’s been used mostly as a reliever and has a 7.58 ERA and 1.68 WHIP so far this season. After a 12.27 ERA in June, He’s been much better in July and August, with a 3.96 ERA in those months.

Armstrong Muhoozi - Muhoozi turned out for the Pirates Dominican Summer League Gold team and the Florida Complex League Pirates. The 19-year-old received a promotion in July and slashed .211/.286/.263 in 11 games there.

On to good news from out in Uganda. In July, the Cameroonian National Baseball Team visited Uganda to participate in baseball instruction and friendly games against Ugandan club teams and the Ugandan National Team. Ugandan clubs Gayaza and Panyadoli both were victorious before the ultimate game in which Uganda defeated Cameroon 9-4. A successful week, and one which hopefully can spur baseball development in Eastern Africa.

And more good news for Ugandan club baseball, after a four-year hiatus, the Men’s National Baseball League is back for 2026. There will be two leagues, the Central and the Northern, made up of 11 teams. Seven teams will play in the Central and four in the Northern. Four teams from the Central and two from the Northern will move on to the Championship round.

The league alignment is as follows.

Central League

  • Ashinaga

  • Gayaza

  • AVRS

  • Shaona

  • St. Peter’s

  • Lugazi

  • Imani

Northern League

  • Panyadoli

  • Nile Hammers

  • Lira Storm Chasers

  • Eastern Gamers

A good update, and I’ll try to get more updates about the National League Results and the Minor League Baseball season.
